Paintball's been on my to do list for quite some time and I finally got to cross it off yesterday! We went on a vaguely work-organised trip, but which included lots of people from different departments. There was about 18 a side, and the "battlefields" ranged from small wooded areas with wooden crates for cover, to most of a hillside (again, with lots of trees and crates), to a small dirt field with lots of oil drums for cover, to a mini-city with four huts and a lot of cover in between.
In some of the games, you had to capture the flag in the middle and take it back to your own camp. Some of them were just straight elimination: last player standing wins it for their team.
It was so much fun!! At first I was a bit apprehensive, but after the first two games I was loving it and doing sniper shots and commando rolls and trying to figure out which one of the other team was my friend (hard to tell in all the gear!) so I could take him down *G* I didn't succeed, but he got me in the hand and arm and I have the bruises to show for it.
I also captured the flag once (!!), had a sniper match with someone while we were both hiding behind oil drums, took out a bunch of people on the other side and got taken out a bunch of times too.
I have 11 bruises from yesterday, seven of them on my legs and four on my hands/arms, plus a whole bunch of small bruises that don't really count. There's one that's about the size of my fist and a whole assortment of multi-coloured ones. And I skinned both knees (through sweat pants and overalls!) while sliding in the dirt and doing commando rolls. It was worth it, though *g* We can't wait to go again! Maybe after this lot of bruises fades.
And then after finishing paintball, we went home just long enough to shower and change. After I'd gotten out of the shower (and counted my bruises) I didn't think I wanted to do anything more than sleep, but I'm glad I went cos I felt loads better after some food and dessert and a night of watching Futurama and Scrubs at a friend's place till the wee hours of the morning.
Now that I've slept, showered, talked on the phone and hung out online for a bit, I think I'm ready to face the rest of the weekend!
