So, um. This is a silly question, but how on earth do you make a vid?
I have a Mac (intel processor) that's relatively but not hugely fast. I have a DVD in one hand and... Handbrake in the other. Handbrake rips DVDs to .avi. I also have Mac The Ripper, but I don't know what to use to convert the files from Mac the Ripper into .avi. Is .avi even the best format?
Anyway, so now I have one huge giant .avi file which is a movie that's about 2 hours long. What should I use to grab clips of the movie (to insert into my vid)? I am trying to load the whole thing into iMovie but I'm thinking that's a dumb way to do it, because according to my computer, that will take about an hour.
Is there a program I can watch the movie with and then just cut out little snippets of the movie into .avi and then I can take those .avi fragments and plug them into iMovie?
Is this even remotely on track?
Your help would be appreciated so very much :)

mac_vidding_101 and while I still have no clue, I might soon one day. Of course, if you'd still like to jump in here with help, that would be awesome :)
